Grandma's Matrimonial Bars By: Vicky M.

Also Called Date Bars. A treat that my Grandmother would make when we were visiting. You can also use dried apricots (not the Mediterranean style) instead of the dates.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 c flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 c softened butter
- 1 c brown sugar
- 1 1/2 c 5 minute Quaker Oats oatmeal
- 1 3/4 c dried dates, chopped
- 1 3/4 c water
- Add All Ingredients
Directions
- Prep Time: about 15-20 minutes.
Sift first four ingredients.
Rub in butter, add sugar and oatmeal. Mix well.
Reserve 1 cup of the mixture. Spread the rest of the mixture in greased 13x9 pan.
Spread evenly with date filling.*
Top with reserved crumbs.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1/2 hour.
TIPS/NOTES
*Date filling: cook water and dates in uncovered saucepan at low temperature until smooth.
